Woodward Industrial Disease Representation
Occupational Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for males and the second most common cancer for women (after breast cancer). The biggest cause of lung cancer is smoking. Other potential causes include: passive smoking; air pollution; and occupational exposure to substances ('carcinogens’) such as asbestos and hard metals or exposure to radiation, especially radon.
Workers who may have a higher risk of developing lung cancer are those who are in regular contact with chemicals or radiation and may include: hairdressers; barbers; miners; iron and steel foundry workers; glass and glassware production workers; chemical factory workers; chemical sprayers; painters; welders; and construction workers. As in asbestos related injury claims, there can be a delay of many years between the exposure and onset of symptoms.
It is often very difficult proving that the cause of the lung cancer is workplace exposure. Woodward are happy to consider accepting instructions in this type of claim.
