Occupational asthma
Asthma is a long-term condition in which a person’s airways become inflamed and tighten when breathing in irritants. This can cause wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and coughing.
Asthma that is caused by (or worsened by) exposure at work is called occupational asthma. It is believed that there are a few hundred substances which may cause asthma including grain and wood dust, colophony, soldering flux, latex, aldehydes and animals.
Workers who may have a higher risk of developing occupational asthma include: paint sprayers; bakers; food process workers; nurses; chemical workers; those who work with animals; welders; hairdressers; and timber workers.
Inevitably this type of claim is often complex in terms of facts (proving the nature and amount of the exposure), expert evidence and the law. Woodward are happy to consider accepting instructions in this type of claim.
